Why I Participate:
I have seen cancer affect people all around me, even as recently as last week. And there's no sign it's slowing down. From extended family members, to friends, to their families, to colleagues who work right beside me, this terrible disease has caused so much pain and suffering. I keep asking myself "Why them?", "They're so healthy, they're the sweetest, kindest people I know, etc, etc.", "It's not fair." But then taking a step back and looking at the bigger picture, why anyone? In 2017 in the US alone, it is predicted that there will be nearly 1.7 million new cancer cases, and that this disease will claim the lives of more than 600,000 people. That means for every minute of the day that ticks by, we are losing someone - a loved one, a friend, a co-worker, your local police officer, hair stylist, Uber driver, the person sitting next to you on the train, someone we may know. Cancer doesn't play fair. Cancer knows no bounds.
I will be riding for you. I will be riding for us. The road is long, and it's an uphill battle, but we will continue to work hard to overcome these obstacles to make this world a better, healthier place.
I would greatly appreciate your support in riding the Pedal the Cause event. Any donation you could provide goes to accelerating groundbreaking collaborative research at four world-class facilities located in the San Diego area: Moores Cancer Center at UC San Diego Health, Sanford Burnham Prebys Medical Discovery Institute, the Salk Institute for Biological Studies and Rady Children's Hospital-San Diego. Donations are tax deductible, and your company may have a corporate matching program as well. Thank you so much for your time and consideration.
