Why I Participate:
Our family was fortunate in that we did not have a history of cancer. We come from healthy stock. That all changed in 2016 when I was diagnosed with early stage breast cancer. When friends asked, my reply was "This is why mammogram screening is so important". I breezed through my treatments thanks to my team of incredible doctors at UCSD. Early screening saves lives and has been possible through years of research.
Last fall, I came down with a very uncomfortable rash that began as spots and progressed throughout my entire body. It took a year to discover that I have a rare form of cutaneous T-Cell lymphoma. My future is uncertain. I've promised my family that I will fight as hard as I can to be cured. We will again depend on the team of professionals at UCSD as well as lymphoma research centers in throughout the country.
To our dismay, my mother recently was diagnosed with breast cancer as well as a different type of lymphoma. I am riding for her. Our family has gone from cancer free to cancer full in less than 2 years. Again we will rely on her team of doctors as well as ongoing research studies.
Personally, I have committed to ride Coronado Classic on November 17th and raise $2,500 for cancer research. I hope you will support me in this journey and consider making a donation, of any size. 100% of your tax-deductible donation will go directly to fund cancer research in San Diego.
Your donation helps not only the residents of San Diego but of individuals throughout our country and world. I've recently discovered while undergoing treatments at UCSD, that quite a few individuals from Hawaii fly to UCSD to be treated for lymphoma.
Let's help find a cure! Thank you for your support!
Much love, Pia
