Why I Participate:

Hi! My profile picture was taken in 2011 at the Chicago Walk for Breast Kancer. Will you join me in 2018 as I take my efforts to raise money for Kancer research to San Diego to ride with a new bunch of friends! I am a survivor and proud of it!

My Story:

Many of you who have known me over the years know that in September of 2009 I was in the height of my fabulous 30's and healthy as a horse...until...I wasn't. At the ripe old age of 38 I received my first Kancer (I's supposed to be a c but I don't respect it enough to spell it's name correctly!) diagnosis, stage 3 breast cancer. Life was about to get interesting! I was lucky have access to Northwestern University Hospital in Chicago and their amazing doctors. After surgery, 6 months of chemo and a little radiation thrown in for good measure I came out of the other end of this lovely journey on June 18th, 2010, my 39th birthday. Woot! Let me tell you a celebration was had that night!

Over the next 3 years I would see my ovaries removed along with Nerf football size tumors that decided they wanted to attach themselves to them, I would have part of a kidney removed to get rid of the little pesky Kancer that showed up one random day and deal with a whole host of fun fallout repercussions from the treatments and surgeries I'd undergone to save my life.

Sounds taxing, huh? Sure, unless you consider that all of the treatment and surgeries I had resulted in me living the amazing life I have today and none of that would have been possible without RESEARCH! Not too long ago, a Stage 3 Breast Kancer diagnosis would have been a probable death sentence, but not in 2009! I personally experienced and benefited from strides and efforts in this field and I am hopeful as I grow older (God willing) that those strides will result in preventative measures and improved treatments for all kinds of Kancer.

I'm proud to join Padres Pedal the Cause in the fight against cancer. We have a large goal this year: to raise $3 million dollars at Padres Pedal 2018. Personally, I have committed to ride Coronado Classic on November 17th and raise $1000 for cancer research. I hope you will support me in this journey and consider making a donation, of any size. 100% of your tax-deductible donation will go directly to fund cancer research in San Diego.
