Why I Participate:
Personally, I originally decided to ride in memory of a family friend, Carly Copley, who lost her life to Leukemia when she was just 4 years old and a very close friend, Liz Laats, who recently passed away after battling ovarian cancer for several years. This year I'll also be riding in honor of my sister Yvonne who was diagnosed with this horrible disease this year. Thankfully she was one of the "lucky" few who actually beat cancer, but not without having to take extreme measures to cut it out of her body and her life for good.
Professionally, I decided to get involved because 100% of all donations stay in San Diego and go directly to a very unique collaboration of cancer research institutes. UC San Diego Moores Cancer Center, Salk Cancer Center, Sanford-Burnham Medical Research Institute and Rady Children's Hospital are combining efforts to create the San Diego National Cancer Institute Cancer Centers Council, or C3, to leverage their distinct and combined resources and talents. This partnership is allowing San Diego's cancer researchers to accelerate the understanding of and innovative treatments for cancer, the nation's second leading cause of death.
Please help me in this journey to find a cure by joining my team as a rider or donating to my ride. I have committed to raise $20,000 for cancer research.
