Why I Participate:
Throughout the 17 years I've been alive, I've watched many close friends and family members be touched by cancer. Some have fought and defeated it, and others have fought and, unfortunately, lost the battle. I've seen my 87-year-old grandpa and 84-year-old grandma struggle to stay strong through the harsh treatements a cancer patient has to endure, especially at an old age. I've gotten to know an adorable 4-year-old boy, Martin, who is fighting harder than I ever could at an unbelievably young age. I've also seen my dad, one of the healthiest guys I know, fight this disease. I ride because I don't think anyone should have to see their loved ones go through something so painful. These and many more are the reasons behind why I ride. I am inspired, motivated, and thankful everyday for the unbelievably resolute people who are fighting cancer.
Out of all of the differences we share, this is something we have in common. We don't want another friend, or dad, or sister, or daughter being affected by this disease. We continually need new research and treatments because they are becoming more targeted and controlling the harsh symptoms that many people have had to endure.
I ride for every strong survivor or fighter in the world. I ride for the future. And I ride for a cure.
