Why I Participate:
Like many of you, my life has been affected by cancer. In our house we have all been deeply changed by the effects of losing a loved one to cancer. I was introduced to my wife Denise, by a mutual friend in 2010, after I had lost a spouse to cancer in 2008. Denise had also lost her husband of 20 years, Marc Necoechea, to cancer. It was never easy to try to move on from the only life that you've ever known. We took it slow. We were married an combined our families and our stories in 2013. All five of our kids (ages 15 -28) understand what it's like to lose a parent to cancer. It has not been easy and life continues to be a challenge everyday but we are moving forward, together as a family.
This is my 5th year participating in "Pedal the Cause" and in past years I have ridden to honor both of my parents, Joan and Hugh O'Neill, as well as my past two wives, Dawn Suzanne Lebish and Audrey Jo (Asaro) O'Neill, who all lost their lives, much too young, to cancer. This year I ride again to honor the Loved Ones in my life that I have lost.
Right now I am full of life and I am thankful and grateful for every day. With life comes challenges and I look forward to the challenges that the Pedal ride represents.
I hold all these people close to my heart and they will all be with me in spirit as I do my best to complete this year's ride.
